architecture 2B were commissioned by this private client to design and supervise the building of this new build 2 storey, 5 bedroomed family house in the greenbelt area of Lepton. The house layout is designed to take advantage both of its positioning on the site, orientation and the spectacular views on offer. The main house is divided into two sections, North and South with a dramatic, light, contemporary interior. The North, houses the entrance, circulation and services (wc/bathroom/utility etc), while the South, contains a large open plan living area with double height space, the snug and formal lounge areas. The snug and kitchen areas receive morning and midday sun with the lower dining and formal living areas benefiting from the afternoon and evening sun. The large fenestration openings echo a traditional “barn” like design, and they allow the relatively narrow plan to be flooded with natural light whilst the deep walls and heavy stone construction provide adequate thermal mass to balance the generous glazed elements.
