Architecture 2B were commissioned to explore the potential of refurbishing an existing industrial unit into an imaginative and creative environment for the Design and Publishing House, Watt Gillchrist. The site is located on one of the main arteries into Leeds, and is highly visible. The design brief was to create something totally removed from the ‘dull, unimaginative, sterile commercial boxes’ that were being offered to Watt Gilchrist for their needs. The existing volume of the shed allowed an open environment with mezzanines to be created; all centred around an internal garden. Identity was of huge importance, and was created by the introduction of a 75m long by 8m high ‘advertisement board’, in the form of a dramatic illuminated screen wall.
