This landmark scheme, incorporating riverside terrace, cafés, office accommodation and 141 contemporary living apartments, is intended to act as a catalyst for regeneration within the local area. It occupies a pivotal riverside position along a main public route and bridging point within the town of Castleford.
The building makes reference to the region’s wealth of local sculptors, and focuses more specifically on the work of Henry Moore and Andy Goldsworthy. The narrative and language of the form subsequently becomes a dialogue between two objects, as much concerned with mass as with the absence of it.
Additional reference to the work of Andy Goldsworthy is made in the use of reed-like fins along the riverfront and Lock Lane elevations.
